Subsidy for Repairs to Owner-Occupied Properties for Eligible Persons
Maximum HKD$80,000 Subsidy
[Application Process for Maintenance Grants for Owner-Occupied Properties for Those in Need]
What is the application process for the Subsidy for Repair of Residential Properties for Eligible Owners?
Starting from July 2, 2020, the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) took over the operation of the "Elderly Home Repair Subsidy Scheme." In addition to continuing to provide financial assistance to elderly owner-occupiers across Hong Kong for the maintenance and repair of their units and to enhance building safety, the URA also increased the subsidy ceiling per unit for each eligible owner from HKD 40,000 to HKD 80,000. Furthermore, the asset limit for elderly applicants was relaxed, and the scheme was renamed to the "Subsidy for Repair of Residential Properties for Eligible Owners."
1. We will provide a quotation for the relevant repair work.
2. Submit the application form along with the quotation.
3. Wait approximately 1 month for approval.
4. Proceed with the approved work.
5. Submit proof of completion.
6. Wait for URA staff to inspect the completed work.
7. If the inspection passes, the subsidy will be arranged for the owner.
Subsidy Amount for the "Elderly Renovation Subsidy Scheme"
1. The maximum subsidy per application is HKD 80,000. Each eligible applicant and their lawful spouse (if married) can jointly receive a maximum subsidy of HKD 80,000.
2. Each property can receive a maximum subsidy of HKD 80,000. The subsidy amount will be calculated proportionally based on the share of ownership of the property held by the eligible applicant and their lawful spouse (if married).
3. If an applicant has previously applied for the Elderly Home Repair Subsidy Scheme under the Hong Kong Housing Society, they can still apply to the URA for the Subsidy for Repair of Residential Properties for Eligible Owners. However, the total subsidy received under both schemes will not exceed the subsidy ceiling of the Subsidy for Repair of Residential Properties for Eligible Owners (i.e., HKD 80,000).
4. Subject to the availability of government funding, each applicant can apply a maximum of 4 times within 10 years from the date of submission of the application form for their first successful application for the Subsidy for Repair of Residential Properties for Eligible Owners.
5. Applicants must not be undischarged bankrupts. Additionally, if an applicant has outstanding or overdue building repair loans from the Buildings Department, the Hong Kong Housing Society, or the URA, the subsidy may be used to repay these loans. The outstanding amount will be calculated as of the date of submission of the application form (i.e., the time the URA receives the application or the postmark date).
