"E0 level" as an internationally recognized high standard has become the focus of consumers. What is E0 level?
E0 represents the highest environmental protection level of formaldehyde emission (wood core), but the definition varies in different regions:
China National Standard GB/T 39600-2021:
The E0 grade requires formaldehyde emission to be ≤0.050mg/m³ (climate chamber method), which is 2.5 times stricter than the old national standard E1 grade (≤0.124mg/m³).
Japanese JIS Standard*:
F☆☆☆☆ (F4 star) is the highest grade, requiring ≤0.03mg/L (dryer method), which is equivalent to E0 grade.
EU EN 717-1 Standard*:
E0 is not directly defined, but the E1 level is ≤0.124mg/m³, and some European brands have their own “Super E0” level (≤0.025mg/m³).
It is worth noting that *E0 does not mean zero formaldehyde, but means that the formaldehyde release is extremely low and almost harmless to the human body.
How to achieve E0 grade splint? Process and adhesive are the key
The key to achieving E0 level lies in raw materials and process control:
Substrate selection: Use low-resin wood such as pine and teak, or reconstructed bamboo with less formaldehyde residue.
Adhesive upgrade: Replace traditional urea-formaldehyde resin glue with MDI ecological glue (isocyanate glue) or soy protein glue.
Sealing process: lock formaldehyde through six-sided wax sealing, UV coating and other technologies to prevent slow release.
